Check and Check!

Poster? Done! Website? Done! The past few days have been fully dedicated to this project so I have been able to work relatively quickly to get everything done!! It is pretty exciting to see everything finally coming together. The poster was a pain in the butt being that I really wanted to add the bottom text often shown in movie posters, but I finally got it done. I used nothing other than just "preview" on my Mac and added text directly to my poster. I wanted to use a bold font, but didnt want to cover the photograph so I put the title vertically in yellow in order to have it pop!

I completed my website as well! I kept it pretty simple with a total of only 4 pages as that seemed to be the typical layout. I really like how it came out with the colors and all as I feel like it really matches the vibe of my film idea. I would post a sneak peek, but my next post is going to be my official project anyways so just hold on tight!! Gotta keep a bit of suspense.... ;)

The Following Preview..

I wanted to add production logos and all, but it seems as though I will be unable to do so. In order to compensate, I definitely wanted to try to recreate the rating screen shown prior to previews because I feel as though it is an important element increasing the legitamacy of my product. I am extremely happy with how it came out!!! Upon trying multiple fonts, I found that Helvetica Neue most closely resembled the font used in the actual image.

Here it is :)

And Cut!

I FILMED EVERYTHING!!!!

Ah the day has finally come where I have gathered all my footage :') A few things ended up changing, like for example, the entire vibe of my film LOL. Instead of having Skye doing positive things from her bucket list, such as making someone smile and all that jazz, it ended up being more towards the side of danger. This was primarily because of the time crunch which didn't allow me to film in the locations I had originally wanted to film in, forcing me to work with what I had while still attempting to make the film enticing. Also, lack of actors. The footage is all of Skye alone, but I figured I could add voiceovers to hint at the fact that multiple characters will be present throughout the film. I can't say that my product is coming along to be exactly how I wanted, but I hope to still create something of substance that I could be proud of.

Off to editing!!!

Entirety

Ok so do not fear, I am fully aware that there are other aspects to this project aside from just the two trailers. I have started to work on my website and have laid out what to place where. i came to the conclusion that it is much simpler to work on the website upon the completion of my trailers which is what I plan to do, however, I do have the basic setup done so I just have to go in and fill in images at this point.

As far as the poster goes, I decided to stay away from the super artsy, post-modernist approach because I think it can take away from the essence of the film. My vision is to just have Skye, the main actress, looking into the camera with colorful lights upon her face representing her edginess and desire for change. I may not end up having her looking at the camera and will play around with the positioning when I am conducting the "photoshoot".

Here is a picture of my other friend to show the lighting I want to use.

Progress

Ok so, I have finalized the sound/music of my trailer which is actually a big step. It really helped me further visualize additional shots I wanted which I can re-film and add on. I am also able to have my actress send me voice notes to add on as well.

I realized I never really explained my idea for the differences in my two trailers so I'll take this time to do so. Basically, my first trailer will be pretty conventional: black screens in between clips, voiceovers, text, all the works. The second trailer will be more of a montage type footage with only music and no dialogue. I think this will really just establish the vibe of the film without giving away too much information. A lot of the actual shots will be the same or similar of course being that that is usually what is done when a film has two trailers. Each trailer will be around a minute long.

It's crunch time!!!

Just My Luck!

A very short update. A very stressed Srishti.

For I Am Freaking Out

Ok so basically, I have no music as of right now :/ I sort of knew trying to get copyright permission from someone as famous as Lorde was a long shot, but you know, a girl can dream. Do not fear though for I have a back up plan! "For I" LOL idk why I got into that Shakespeare vibe for a sec there.

Anyways, I reached out to the manager of a band called Phantogram. I feel like their music will totally fit the vibe I am going for and since they are a relatively small band, hopefully gaining permission is a realistic endeavor!!

Here is the email I sent, so let's hope and pray I receive a response soon....I'm super anxious because I really want to use a song with lyrics and all the ones found on copyright free music websites are primarily instrumental.

I will keep you guys posted!!

Artsy Symbolism? Whack.

Movie posters!! Now that I semi-started filming, I have to begin tackling the other two aspects of the project as well. As far as the movie poster goes, I definitely think presenting the main character, Skye, is the way to go. I was considering being symbolic and maybe showing a road or something representing her journey and all, but I feel that would not be as capturing of the film.

The artsy route is something that came to mind as well, but I am not very good at photoshop and it may not even make sense with the film. Photography is something I can pull of and I have these cool colored lights in my room to assist in this.

The idea of colored lights reminded me of the movie poster of Moonlight. I plan to create something similar to this with maybe less of a closeup and more of a mid shot. I would also probably work with slightly different colors, incorporating red and purple instead of blue and purple. I'm going to try to take the pics sometime this week so i will keep you all posted of course!!

Tik Tok On the Clock (Ke$ha Lyrics)

en·hance . inˈhans,enˈhans/ verb/ intensify, increase, or further improve the quality, value, or extent of.

After the group meetings, I was reassured that my character alteration would work out. They all agreed that having a couple of girl friends as opposed to one guy friend would not lessen the film in any way and may in fact enhance it by maintaining a bigger focus on Skye herself. They also said they feel like I should only use about two or three more characters in order to allow the audience to create somewhat of a connection to the characters. I completely agree with this and it is perfect because I only had two other actresses I planned to use anyways.

I am most likely going to start to film this week, but I am worried it might become rough being that it is my birthday weekend. If I do not get a chance to film much, I am extremely lucky that neither I, nor my main actress, is traveling over spring break because that may become the last resort. I am hoping to at least get some footage this weekend because time is closing in!!!

Skye Needs A Posse

change [cheynj] verb. to make the form, nature, content, future course, etc., of (something) different from what it is or from what it would be if left alone:

Ok so I basically altered my idea a bit due to the lack of available male actors, but I think I could work with it. When I lost my original male actor, I searched for an alternate one. Although I did find a couple, it seems like their schedules may be difficult to work with. In order to still be able to work with them, I decided to make the guy's character even less prominent and have the film be about her checking things off of her bucket list by herself. This would be fine to portray in the trailer, but there was one problem: what dialogue would the actual film have? My struggle was that I have consistently wanted the film to focus on Skye and her self-growth. I felt that having a "side-kick" would take away from this focus and may be distracting even. So I figured out a solution!!! I am going to incorporate a multitude of scenes of her checking things off her list with various friends as opposed to just one. This allows her to remain the constant of the film, but still allows for dialogue and interactions. It also solves my actor issue as I would only need each person I use, other than Maria, for one scene as opposed to needing them to visit different locations and spend a lot of time.

Also!! Last Friday, my friends and I did a pre-birthday celebration for me and we went to the Perez Art Museum, one of the places I wanted to film at. I definitely plan to film there and am excited for all of the areas and backdrops I could use :) Here is one of them with my actress....

Counting My Blessings

I AM SO HAPPY. I was just informed that the due date for the project has been pushed forward a week. This is AMAZING news being that I was freaking out about the time crunch as you all knew from my recent posting. Having spring break to film is extremely helpful being that neither I nor my actors are traveling anywhere. It will really give me time to finalize and perfect my project.

I still have not received copyright permission for Green Light by Lorde so I am currently on the search for music. I have been browsing copyright free websites such as purple-planet.com and freemusicarchive.org. The sound I want is more towards the alternative/indie vibe, however, I feel like in trailer music, lyrics would really enhance the piece and songs with lyrics are not very common in the copyright free department at least. Lots of category options so let's see.

Who Is Skye?

Ok so slight change. My main actress was supposed to be Jillian but her job at Regal has taken over her life so scheduling is getting a bit rough. It's not too big of an issue because I could just use my friend Maria instead, but I might have to change up some characteristics in order to make it easier for Maria to represent the character of Skye.

As far as styling and all, I think I want Cara Delevigne to be the inspiration for Skye. Maria already has the same look as her with her blonde hair and green eyes so this works well. I want her to embrace a spunky, street vibe, band tees and all.

This may turn out to be a better decision just because Maria lives much closer to me therefore the convenience level would definitely increase. Let's see!!

TIME IS TICKING

OK. I am sort of in panic mode being that I have yet to film. The good news is that I now know which locations I want to use. I will primarily be using my backyard, TreeTops Park, Wynwood, and South Beach.

The times for filming will be more towards the evening and night which means that I will probably need more days to film being that my parents would not approve of me being out too late of course. The next few weeks are also a bit busy regarding my personal life as I am visiting my possible colleges and my birthday is coming up. I will get everything done for sure; however, I am not sure if I will be able to create as good of a production as I would like to. :/
